The answer is ALL of them.
Although it is necessary to understand that in the winter months some trails are left enabled due to bad weather, or to the excessive presence of snow. We recommend to be attentive to the Facebook of the PN Glaciers and Tourism El Chaltén, where it was published news continuously.
Between December and the end of February, the days are warmer, there are more hours of light and there’s a lot more people walking through the trails. At the end of march, the autumn begins to peek out, so that the scenery changed completely.
For more info, please read: The weather in El Chalten.
The simple answer is: ALL of them. The real answer: it Depends on the amount of free days you have and what other plans you have.
The trails are more common are 2: Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Torre. each one of you can go and back in the day (click on each link to see more info about the trail). Therefore, with 3 days that you have free (and recalling that the climate in El Chaltén is a little crazy), you have to ride well. Now, there are many more trails and trips in the area, and the reality is that you’re going to want to come back.
As a personal recommendation: If you have a 14-day vacation, goes 2 or 3 days to explore El Calafate (safety pin the navigation to the Perito Moreno Glacier) and the rest of the day, directly to El Chaltén.
The climate in any season of the year is literally a lottery. There can be 4 seasons in 1 day. That is why it is important that you prepare well before you make any trail. We recommend reading: How to dress to go to the mountain?
To find the average temperature during the year and to know which Apps work best for the climate, we recommend that you read: The weather in El Chalten.

If, within the village there are several places where you can rent clothing and equipment. To find up to date prices, please visit:
El Chalten offers different types of trails with different difficulty. All the trails are listed within the tab “Paths“. Similarly, there are crossings (with overnight stays in campsites, rustic) listed in “Crossings“.
We recommend viewing maps with their corresponding distances and slopes prior to starting the activity. Consider physical state, weather and time of year before start any journey.
We do not recommend to perform the trails within the “Remote Area” those who have no experience in mountain. And in case of carrying them out, bear in mind that the Los Glaciares National Park requires a mandatory registration.
El Chalten offers a network of trails that are well marked, have periodic maintenance and are frequented by staff from the National Park Los Glaciares. These trails are considered to be within the “Backbone” and they involve the most popular trails such as Laguna de Los Tres, Laguna Torre, Chorrillo del Salto, etc,
The rest of hiking trails, hiking and climbing routes that are developed within the limits of the PN are considered as “Remote Area“because the trails are not properly marked, the environment is more hostile and in case of emergency, the help it could take much.
Those who do not have enough experience in the mountains, we recommend not to perform paths or journeys that are developed within the “Remote Area“.
If the trail is found within the “Backbone Network“, it is not necessary to register. In the case of paths or journeys within the “Remote Area” if it is necessary to complete the mandatory registration of use of mountain and visit the Visitors Center “Ceferino Fonzo“.
Paths that do NOT require registration:
Trails IF you require registry:
Important Season 2021: The return of the southern patagonian ice field is not enabled by the closure of borders.
For more information, be counted directly with the Visitor Center “Ceferino Fonzo”.
El Chalten has a wide range of desk to rest within the town. We recommend you to visit the following link for more information: Where to stay in El Chalten
Within the park there are different camps that from December 2024 became arancelados and require a reservation (For more info: Association of Friends of the PN Los Glaciares):
For more info, please read: Camp wild inside the National Park Los Glaciares.
It is important to note that these camps are not equipped with any type of service, there are no places to buy food, and only have 1 toilet each.
Then there are other alternatives pay outside the boundaries of the PN Glaciers and may require prior booking. For example, to visit the area of the Valley of the Rio de las Vueltas you can stay in the Shelter Piedra del Fraile. likewise, those who have intentions of spending the night near the Lake of the Desert are going to find several places to stay.
Trail 1 day (without camping), we recommend that you read: What to pack in your backpack for trekking?
If you’re thinking of going to camp within the park or do you want to do some cruise (we recommend the Cruise lake of the Three – Lagoon Tower), read: What to pack in a backpack for trekking or long trips?
As in any national park, the fire is strictly prohibited. Only is allowed the use of gas heaters and only in sites-enabled.
Not, within the park there is no internet nor signal to make voice calls. That is why it is important that before you leave you tell someone that it’s not going to be able to locate for a few hours (especially if you think you can make a journey of several days).
It is not necessary to have prior experience to perform the trails found within the “backbone Network”, because they are self-guided and are very well signposted. In addition they are paths that are very crowded and all the time you’ll ace sit with people.
Anyway, each path is assigned a difficulty: Low, Medium or High.
We recommend that before you start any trip review, in detail, the distance, the height difference and think on the basis of your physical condition, if it is possible to do this or not.
I remember that the idea is that you will enjoy your stay in El Chalten! Therefore we recommend you do not attempt to strive for more, you could put your own physical integrity.
The trail to Laguna de los Tres has a High difficulty, but each person has a different perspective on the degree of difficulty and is relative to your physical condition.
If realizás some type of physical activity, possibly the last climb not be so difficult. Now, if you’re a person sedentary or little accustomed to long hikes, possibly costing you a little more.
One way or another, the important thing is to enjoy the trekking and the beautiful landscapes that we gift this region of Patagonia. doesn’t matter if the last climb’t claim 1, 2 or 3 hours. Nobody will hurry and you can make so many stops to rest as you need.
Now, if you really feel bad at some point or it will make it very difficult to breathe, volvete immediately. Don’t keep going up and up because you can put in risk your life!!! You have many other trekking to do, and also other types of activities.
No. Pets are not allowed within the National Parks and Reserves because they are alien species that alter the environment and native wildlife.
No. Drones or any other device of flight engine-driven, is prohibited by the Law of National Parks, Natural Monuments and National Reserves.
If. The water of the rivers and streams within the trails is safe to drink and can be consumed without the need for water purification tablets.
In the case of the Fitz Roy River (camp DAgostini) the water has a cloudy color due to the sediment that drag the river, but is not dirty water and can be consumed without problems.
No. Within the paths do not exist, stores, kiosks or pantries to buy food or drinks. It is necessary that you bring your own things to eat and drink (and of course, to return with all of the waste to the village).

It is necessary to understand that: All that I have, must come down with me to the village. I can not leave anything that does not belong to the ecosystem.
Packaging, bottles, cigarette butts, papers, etc In the same way the peels of fruits and the yerba used. It is true, the grass could act as a fertilizer but for that we should be dried first and then bury her properly until they decompose. And that, clearly, is not something that we are going to do in the middle of the mountain. Then, to avoid letting it spin for any side, it is better to put it in a bag and bring it down to the people.
It is very simple: If I was able to come up with 3 pounds of food, quietly going to be able to go down with the wrappers or the chaff.
