LOMA DEL PLIEGUE TUMBADO
One of the least-traveled trails in Los Glaciares National Park, yet one that rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the Fitz Roy river valley, along with the Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy massifs and the Grande Glacier.
The trail begins at the trail junction located within the grounds of the Ceferino Fonzo Visitor Center. Instead of turning left toward the Cóndores and Águilas viewpoints, follow the signage and continue to the right.
The trail is very well marked and consists mostly of a continuous ascent through forests and open grasslands (pampas).
At approximately km 4.5, the trail splits: the right fork leads to Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, while the left fork continues for those heading to Lago Toro or beginning the Cerro Huemul Circuit.
From this point, vegetation nearly disappears and the ascent becomes noticeably steeper. The final stretch follows a switchback section, and as you gain elevation, the full mountain range gradually comes into view ahead — a sight that will inspire you to keep pushing forward
Total distance: 21 km (Back and forth),
Estimated time: 7-8 hour.
This is a full-day hike. An early morning start is strongly recommended to make the most of daylight hours.
Before heading out, always check the weather forecast. Depending on the time of year and the type of route, we also recommend verifying sunrise and sunset times.
We recommend the following apps (desktop versions also available):
